Breaking the Silence: Jesus is the Mighty God

Is Jesus your Mighty God?

Throughout the New Testament, the apostles boldly proclaimed Jesus as their God. Yet, in modern Christianity, many hesitate to refer to Him as the Mighty God. Why is there such a difference between the faith of the apostles and today’s believers? Have traditions and human philosophies clouded what Scripture plainly teaches?

The Apostles Declared Jesus as God

The apostles were unafraid to declare that Jesus was not just the Son of God, but fully God in flesh.

  • Titus 2:13 – "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ."
  • 2 Peter 1:1 – "Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ."
  • John 20:28 – "And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God."
  • Colossians 2:9 – "For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily."

These verses make it unmistakably clear that the apostles saw Jesus as their God. They did not view Him as merely one person in a triune being but as the fullness of God revealed in the flesh.

Jesus Is the Father

Scripture also affirms that Jesus is not separate from the Father but is the Father Himself in human form:

  • Isaiah 9:6 – "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
  • John 14:9 – "Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?"
  • John 10:30 – "I and my Father are one."
  • 1 Timothy 3:16 – "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."

Despite these clear declarations, why do many believers today struggle to call Jesus their Mighty God?

The Influence of the Trinity Doctrine

One of the main reasons is the long-standing influence of the doctrine of the Trinity, which was not taught by the apostles but was established centuries later. This doctrine introduced the concept of three co-equal persons in one Godhead, making believers hesitant to fully acknowledge Jesus as the sole divine being.

Yet, the Bible warns against doctrines that stray from the apostles’ teachings:

  • Galatians 1:8 – "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed."
  • Ephesians 4:5-6 – "One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all."

The apostles knew only one God, and they identified Him as Jesus Christ.

The Fear of Breaking Tradition

For centuries, the doctrine of the Trinity has been enforced as a fundamental Christian belief. Many fear being labeled as heretics if they question it. Historically, those who denied the Trinity faced persecution and even death. The result is that many believers today accept this doctrine without ever deeply studying the Scriptures for themselves.

The Call to Return to Apostolic Faith

If the apostles had no hesitation in calling Jesus their Mighty God, why should we? Hebrews 13:8 declares, "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever." If He was God then, He is still God today.

Instead of relying on traditions, every believer must return to the foundation of the apostles and prophets (Ephesians 2:20) and boldly confess Jesus as the one true God.

Conclusion

Many hesitate to call Jesus their Mighty God due to centuries of theological influence that distanced modern Christianity from the apostles’ original faith. However, the Bible is clear: Jesus is our God, our Father, and our Savior. Rather than fearing human traditions, we must boldly embrace the biblical truth and worship Him as the Mighty God He truly is.
